What Mom(Christina) do for the young men and women are just amazing! First let me tell you why these young men and women need Mom's help. These young men and women age from 18 to 30 are contracted workers from Vietnam to work in Malaysia. They are working abroad for better wages so they thought. Before they even start working for any companies, they have to pay $2,000 US for agent, documentation and traveling fees. That is a huge sum of money for these young workers. They usually mortgage their family farm or house to get the money. Once they arrive at the airport, they wait for agents to come to pick them up. The wait can be up to 2 weeks depending on the agent's discretion. These young workers have no food and only water from the fountains in the airport. They literally sleep on the ground. When they get picked up, the agent immediately confiscates their passports. According to Malaysian law, anyone without passport documentation is considered an illegal immigrant. This is how the employers keep the workers from working for another company. These young men and women leave their mother country to a foreign country in search of better salary in order to provide financial support for their families. Because these workers do not speak Malay, Chinese or English, they can not defend themselves. And this is where the abuses starts. These young workers are beaten, held without pay, and in some cases, tricked into prostitution if they are women. Some girls were raped by their employers. They have no one to report these abuses to because they cannot communicate with the authorities. If they decide to run away, then they risk becoming fugitives on the run from immigration because the employers would report them missing. Some of the young workers get hurt on the job and the employers refuse to pay medical treatment. After the workers' contract period is up, they board them up onto a bus without pay, drive them to a distant forest, drop them off, and leave them to die. These are just few of the atrocities young men and women face in Malaysia. Mom helps them by providing them food and a safe shelter for the abused workers who are abused. Because she has helped many of these Vietnamese workers, the Malaysian Government can no longer turn the other way. The government has allowed Mom's place to be a safe house for the workers which means that even if the employer knew that the run away workers are in Mom's house and calls the police to go get them, the police can not go in. Mom then helps these young men and women pay medical bills and hire lawyers to sue for lost wages or to provide new visas so they can either work at a different company or go back home to Vietnam. The young men and women are amazed by Mom's abundant love for them. She tells them it's because of Jesus that she can have this love for them. She tells them that only Jesus's love is unconditional. Slowly but surely, they want to find out more about this guy named Jesus. There are currently about 250,000 Vietnamese contracted workers in Malaysia. She has helped 25,000 and many of them came to know Christ. This is her mission. This is Mom's ministry, Voice for the Voiceless. |
